Strength and Style

Macmillan have teemed up with Toni and Guy hair salons to help people with cancer affected by hair loss.

Together, they have developed a programme called Strength in Style, to give patients the chance to get expert support in their hair salons.

There, you will receive top tips on hair care, together with wig cutting, and styling from specially-trained consultants;  Macmilllan will have been involved in the training.

As Tony Mascolo, CEO of Toni and Guy says, “providing expert care for people undergoing cancer treatment is something the entire company is passionate about supporting”.

Their salons are spread around the world, from Aberdeen to Amman, in Jordan.

    Hi there you guys!!!!

I am currently undergoing chemo for secondary breast cancer.

Regularly visit Emma at Toni&Guy, Stockton-on-Tees for wig cutting, but now that my hair is growing back and grey (OMG), looking for henna product to dye until long enough to have professionally dyed.

Your valued comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Stephanie Clayden

Hi I wonder if you can help. I’ve just has my first chemotherapy and have been told that my hair will fall out around day 10-20. I have breast and despite any illness have always been able to ‘hide’ behind. Hair and makeup. I have got a couple of wigs which need cutting into my style are there any salons near me who can discreetly help me. I’ve also heard that raccoon extensions maybe able to be put in quite quickly after chemo finishes and wondered about cost for this too and areas. I live in Sutton Surrey sm1 area. Thank you so much. Kind regards Jill Hanmore xx

What a horrible ‘sword of damocles’hanging over you being told your hair is going to fall out. If you go to the Hair category I mention several companies that are helpful; Charles Worthington is one, Toni and Guy others, and last month I went to see Urban Retreat in Harrods – very glam, down-to-earth and surprisingly affordable. Both are used to dealing with these problems.

I don’t know any salons near you, but suggest you phone and ask – and if they are friendly make an appointment. By same token if they brush off your fears don’t go near them!

Let me know how you get on. This seems a growing problem, and so far none of the drug companies seem to be addressing it. They just make stronger drugs.

Unfortunately I can’t help with info on hair extensions. I wonder if you have taken advice to know if these are good for your hair? Ask a reputable hairdresser, and if they can’t help, I don’t know anyone who can. Sorry.
